GRAPHIC DESIGN
The degree course in Graphic Design aims
to prepare a professional figure capable of operating within the field
of the visual arts, with particular reference to multimedial graphic design,
art printing and the publishing world.
Such a professional figure carries out his/her activity as a freelance,
either independently or in collaboration with others.
He/she can offer a worthy collaboration with studios, service agencies
and specialized artistic and professional workshops operating in the field
of the visual arts: multimedial graphics, art prints, the publishing world,
photography.
In the accomplishment of his/her professional activity he/she is capable
of assuming, in first person, responsibilities of project planning and
art direction. His/her tasks of participation range from Graphic Design
to publishing graphics, to the design of coordinated images, trade fair
set-ups, tourist signs or street signs in general, of television logos,
websites, etc.
Such a professional figure is capable of supplying technical advising in
all the stages of printing and production in the field.
KNOWLEDGE BASE
- Comprehensive overview of the History of Modern and Contemporary Art.
- The background of the historical events that are at the basis of the
current culture of the graphic design.
- The techniques and technologies of traditional and contemporary graphic
design, printing and publishing graphics.
- The techniques of colour and its use.
- The necessary materials, as well as the techniques of working them.
- The tools of the trade and the principle techniques of design and graphical
representation.
- The scientific and theoretical aspects, as well as the methodological
and practical ones, of the discipline.
- The main techniques of graphical representation, with particular reference
to computerized graphic design and the techniques of digital modelling.
- The techniques of engraving, copperplate engraving, printing and art
graphics.
- The techniques of photography (B/W, colour and digital).
- Video shooting and editing techniques.
- Visual communication, the theory of perception and the psychology of
the form.
The graphic designer is able to use such knowledge in order to face and
resolve in an optimal way problems of graphic design of a complex type
that demands an interdisciplinary approach.
