Lithos (“stone” in Greek)
can be considered as content and container of other arts, other expressive
languages: writing,
drawing,
printing to make durable impressions, tied indissolubly to the extreme
concrete character of the means.
Since 1798 with the first experiments performed by Senefelder, this art
and craft has attracted the interest of artists themselves while being
widely diffused at the same time as a technique for the support of specific
realizations of art. A century later with Toulouse-Lautrec, lithography
invaded the realm of art graphics and the field of advertising communications
at its outset: publicity posters to celebrate the Parisian nightclub dancers
and the use of multiple matrices gave expressiveness and colour to this
technique, often tingeing it with the aura of painting.
It is in these inter-weavings and cross-fertilizations that today lie the
value of this art, in its continuing capacity to establish relations with
the various scenarios of contemporary artistic production.
The independent course of lithography is geared to the theoretical study
and in-depth practice of lithographic techniques and includes the following
workshop activities:
• Graphical techniques
• Lithography on stone
• Lithography on zinc
• Printing in black and white
• Printing in colour
The print shop can run off print jobs on commission.
