The advanced training course in Corporate Type Design focuses exclusively on a highly specialised sector of graphic design and is the only one of its kind available in Italy. It concentrates on the integrational process of Corporate Types, namely families of corporate fonts recognizable as part of an institution’s visual identity.
Words represent a fundamental aspect of communication and the visual characterization of verbal expression offers a unique opportunity in terms of increasing recognition of any given subject.
Viewed from a corporate perspective, this process provides a tangible element to corporate ethos and, as such, confirms the central role played by visual designers in the processes of attributing identity.
Corporate Type is synonymous with a high level of specialization. The course sets out to highlight the way in which choices in typeface are frequently made in keeping with the demands of specific circumstances related to their areas of use, for example in signposting, publishing and so on.
The course is designed to encompass both the teaching of theoretical concepts underpinning the choices made in all manner of type design project in addition to practical aspects, ensuring that participants’ are endowed with all the skills and knowledge required to oversee the design process; from digital design to the engineering of the finished product.
Upon completion of the course, participants will have the skills to create a font independently – from the first sketch to the final digital product – and most importantly will have developed a fine eye for design quality issues and ease of reproduction. The course also provides students with an introduction to production technologies, enabling them to further hone their skills in the future. .
Antonio Pace was born in Rome in 1968. In 1995, he graduated in visual communication with a specialization in Grafikdesign from the HfG Offenbach University of Art and Design in Frankfurt on the Main. In 1996, he founded the Antonio Pace Grafikdesign studio in Frankfurt and, in 1999, started collaborating with Linotype in the design of typefaces. Between 1995 and 2000, he worked on the development of Gianotten, a family of typefaces in the Bodoni style, with the study of originals held in the Bodoni Museum in Parma serving as the basis of the design. Between 1998 and 2008, he set up AReA Deutschland, a branch division of the Frankfurt-based international network of AReA Strategic Design, later becoming partner in the Inarea network and specializing in corporate branding. Between 1998 and 2004, he worked on a wide range of projects in the corporate field, brand identity and corporate communication, working amongst others with Bosch Telekom, Aventis Pharma, the State and federal government of Hesse (a federal state in the German Federal Republic), the Municipality of Frankfurt on the Main, the German association of electrical energy providers (VWEW) and many more besides.
Between 2000 and 2012, he completed numerous corporate design projects in his position as Inarea partner and collaborator, amongst these for the Municipality of Milan, La Sapienza University of Rome, the Municipality of Rome, ATAC (Rome municipal transport company), ENI (national energy provider) and ACI (Italian Automobile Club) as well as the football club AC Milan. Between 2008 and 2014, he worked in conjunction with Inarea on brand identity development projects, with clients including ACEA (the Italian water and energy provider), Mumex, Adn Kronos, Gemelli and Civita. Alongside his intense professional activity, he has also taught university level courses and participated in numerous congresses, including HfG Karlsruhe (University of Art and Design, Karlsruhe), HTW Berlin (Polytechnic of Berlin), Deutscher Designer Club Frankfurt (association of Frankfurt designers), the salotto buono (Juliane von Herz Art Advisory, Frankfurt), AIAP Milano (Italian Association of Visual Communication Designers), La Sapienza University of Rome and the Italian Olympics Committee Sports School.
In 2016, he inaugurated his design platform, “bianchipace” specializing in corporate, brand identity, web design and word press application development.
