Discover the secrets of performance art<\/h3>\n

 
\nPERFORMING ROME<\/em> is a visual art course to practice performance art immersed in the city of Rome<\/strong>, its history and present, religious, secular, and contemporary art and architecture. You will be visiting and interpreting the city physically and conceptually, through its tales, myths, and monuments. <\/p>\n

This intensive workshop focuses on individual performance art practice with the backdrop of the Eternal City: the call is to embark on a journey to re-perform Caravaggio, Bernini, and Zaha Hadid.
\nYou will practice physical and mental exercises to learn how to hold the space<\/strong>, including some derived from yoga, several trust exercises, endurance exercises, and meditation techniques<\/strong>. The course includes guided visits led by the lecturer and concludes with the presentation of a performance open to the public.<\/p>\n

\u276fThis workshop welcomes performance artists, visual artists exploring this territory, as well as filmmakers and photographers developing their own reportage about contemporary art. At the end of the course, a certificate of attendance is issued to those who have attended at least 80% of the lessons, for a possible recognition of 2 CFA.

\nRequirements\/supporting materials:<\/strong> No entry requirements. Entry tickets to museums are included in the cost of the course.

Day 1<\/strong>
\nIntroduction and schedule of the course.
\nA lecture on history of performance art from Futurism and DADA to the present times: the ways in which it has evolved in different parts of the world. The works of some of the most important artists of performance art such as Yoko Ono, Marina Abramovic, Joseph Beuys, Vito Acconci, and others will be analyzed and discussed, as well as the relationship between performance art and the contemporary art scene, the connection with museums and commercial galleries, and the key role of performance art in major art events.
\nIndividual and group exercises.
\nVisit to the Saint Peter’s Basilica<\/p>\n

Day 2<\/strong>
\nPerforming the Vatican – individual or group student performances
\nA path throughout the heart of Rome. Visit to Saint Louis of the French (The Calling of Saint Matthew, The Inspiration of Saint Matthew, and The Martyrdom of Saint Matthew by Caravaggio), Barberini Palace, Church of Santa Maria della Vittoria in Rome (The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa of Avila by Bernini).<\/p>\n

Day 3<\/strong>
\nPerforming Caravaggio and Bernini – individual or group student performances.<\/p>\n

Day 4<\/strong>
\nPreparation for the performances.<\/p>\n

Day 5 <\/strong>
\nDiscussion and review of the performance concepts, rehearsal, and final performances.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n \n\n

Marta Jovanovi\u0107 <\/a><\/strong>
\nMarta Jovanovi\u0107 is a performance artist and educator with a mission to promote and facilitate further progress of the discipline. Founder of the Performance Art Program at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade, artist in residency at The Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles in 2017, Jovanovi\u0107 is also the subject of the multiple award-winning documentary \u201cBorn Just Now\u201d, by the American director Robert Adanto. Her works, among which the most notable ones are \u201cPionirka\u201d, \u201cIt is My Body\u201d, \u201cLove\u201d, and \u201cMotherhood\u201d, are in important private and museum collections. The performance \u201cBelgradeMermaid\u201d opened the Belgrade Biennale in 2018, while its continuation \u201cMermaid\u2019s Tale\u201d became a performance in Virtual Reality the following year. Curator Kathy Battista wrote a survey of the artist\u2019s early works titled \u201cMarta Jovanovic: Performing the Self\u201d, which was published by the Martin E. Segal Theatre Center of City University of New York, while in the book New York New Wave, Battista positions Jovanovi\u0107 among the most urgent New York City contemporary feminist artists.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n \n\n
