The competition is aimed at young filmmakers, both professional and amateur, of any nationality, aged between 18 and 35 years, who are interested in using archive cinema and archive material to create new audiovisual creations of a documentary nature that can connect, in original forms and languages, the dimension of memory and history with the present.<\/p>\n

In addition to the application form, candidates must also submit a project proposal for a short documentary film of a maximum duration of fifteen minutes. Nine of them will be selected by a jury on the basis of precise parameters: completeness and precision of the proposal; originality of the project from the thematic, linguistic, aesthetic point of view, of the method of fruition; method of use of repertory material.<\/p>\n

The selected authors will be admitted to an in-depth course that includes, between October 2019 and January 2020 in Rome, six training meetings of three hours each and, for each project, nine hours of individual tutoring in the presence and twelve hours of individual tutoring at a distance. The meetings will be held by professionals of Italian cinema.<\/p>\n

After this phase, the jury will examine the development work and choose the three winning projects, worthy of support in the realization. The same winners can use the archive materials (with Creative Commons licenses), be supported by professional figures for post-production, use workstations and technologies. Each winning project will be awarded a prize of 2,000 euros. The sum in question will be delivered at the end of the completion of the short film.<\/p>\n

The contest, directed by Antonio Medici, is promoted by the foundation “Archivio audiovisivo del movimento operaio e democratico” (AAMOD), as part of the “UnArchive” project. The aim is to experiment paths of maximum openness to the knowledge, dissemination and reuse of film heritage, through the adoption of open licenses and the exploitation of opportunities offered by the web. The 2019\/2020 edition is supported by MIBAC, Nuovo IMAIE, Istituto Luce Cinecitt\u00e0, with the collaboration of Cineteca Sarda, Deriva Film, Officina Visioni, FICC. Media partner is Radio Radicale.<\/p>\n
