Now in its sixth edition, the International Prize ” Contemporary Generation”<\/strong>, promoted by the Luiss Creative Business Center<\/strong>, aims to promote<\/strong> contemporary Italian and foreign art<\/strong>, support artists under 35, and expand the permanent art collection of the Luiss Business School.<\/p>\n

International Award “Contemporary Generation”<\/h3>\n

\nThe competition requires that candidate works develop a specific concept<\/strong>, which will also be the subject of the final exhibition of the eleventh edition of the Luiss Master of Art<\/strong>, scheduled for December<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Candidates may submit only one work<\/strong>, published or unpublished<\/strong>, which clearly demonstrates adherence to the theme<\/strong>. The competition is open to works<\/strong> created using all the languages of visual expression<\/strong> (painting<\/strong>, sculpture<\/strong>, installation<\/strong>, photography<\/strong>, graphics<\/strong>, video<\/strong>, with no limit on techniques).<\/p>\n

The competition is open exclusively to artists under 35<\/strong>. The deadline for submitting applications<\/strong> is 11 October 2021<\/strong> by 12 noon. Participation is free<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The theme of the contest<\/h3>\n

\nThe theme<\/strong> chosen for this year is “Reactions”<\/strong>. The competition involves the awarding of a cash prize<\/strong> worth 4,000 euros<\/strong> to the first prize winner<\/strong> as a purchase of the chosen work. The first three finalist works<\/strong> will be included in the final exhibition<\/strong> of the Master of Art – Reactions<\/strong> and its catalogue.<\/p>\n

The term “reaction”<\/strong> refers to acting in response to another action<\/strong> and\/or in the opposite direction<\/strong>. This contrary sense<\/strong> has affinities with the concept of irony<\/strong>, understood in terms of simulation and dissimulation. <\/p>\n

In literature, irony<\/strong> is a rhetorical procedure in which words take on a meaning contrary to that which is actually intended. This kind of attitude offers, through art, one of the possible antidotes<\/strong> against an age that requires not only the individual, but the entire community to accept the sense of abandonment of their freedoms and ideals<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The works will be judged by: Peter Benson Miller, adjunt professor Luiss Business School; Achille Bonito Oliva, contemporary art critic; Roberto Cotroneo, Italian journalist, writer and photographer; Pia Lauro, independent curator and Luiss Master of Art graduate; Gianfranco Maraniello, art historian and curator; Giovanna Melandri, president Fondazione MAXXI; Mons. Paolo Nicolini, deputy director of management and administration of the Vatican Museums; Domenico Piraina, director Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea di Milano; Luca Pirolo, director Luiss Master of Art; Guido Talarico, director InsideArt.
