On Wednesday 9 September 2026, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, the Casa degli Autori at the Venice Lido will host the talk “Sound Aesthetics in Cinema. When Moving Images Meet Music”, promoted by RUFA and Saint Louis College of Music.
RUFA at Giornate degli Autori with “Sound Aesthetics in Cinema”
The talk will offer a multidisciplinary reflection on the role of sound in shaping the cinematic work, bringing together directing, sound design, music composition and historical research.
The talk will be moderated by Valentina Toscano, Industry Relations Manager, who will lead the discussion between four professionals from different backgrounds and disciplines:
- Alain Parroni, Director and Screenwriter, RUFA Alumnus;
- Mirko Perri, Sound Designer and RUFA Visiting Lecturer;
- Ginevra Nervi, Composer, Singer-Songwriter and Producer, Visiting Lecturer at Saint Louis College of Music;
- Cristina Carlini, Composer and Lecturer at Saint Louis College of Music.
The talk will explore how music, voices, sounds and soundscapes can profoundly transform the perception of moving images, making a decisive contribution to a film’s identity.
From the history of music for cinema to new technologies and contemporary practices in composition and sound design, the discussion will highlight the soundtrack not as a mere accompaniment, but as a cinematic language in its own right, capable of contributing to the writing of a film alongside directing and screenwriting.
Particular attention will also be given to the role of the composer as an author, and to the increasingly close relationship between vision and listening, leading to the creation of a cinematic experience in which image and sound work together to shape both the narrative and the audience’s perception.
RUFA’s participation in Giornate degli Autori represents an important opportunity to engage with the contemporary film landscape and reaffirms the Academy’s commitment to an educational approach that brings together different disciplines, technologies and professional practices, creating tangible connections between education and the creative industries.
