Labs

RUFALab

In the heart of San Lorenzo, Rome’s district of creativity and new ideas, is RUFALab.
Located within the RUFA campus at Via degli Ausoni 7, this space brings together thought and making: a true digital laboratory where the RUFA community can design, experiment and build.
Here, craftsmanship and technology come together, creating an environment where ideas take shape through 3D printers, prototyping tools and a strong drive to innovate.

Design Lab

In the heart of Bovisa, Milan’s district of innovation and design, is the RUFA Design Lab.
Located within the RUFA campus at Piazzale Lugano 19, this space is dedicated to design experimentation: an environment where technical skills and creativity interact every day.

Here, design takes on its most tangible dimension through professional tools, modelling, prototyping and materials research. A place where ideas become projects, and projects shape the future.

Fashion Design Lab

In the Fashion Lab, materials take shape through fabrics, mannequins and sewing machines. It is a space designed for experimenting with volume, cutting and construction, where every student can transform an idea into a garment through practice.

Here, fashion design engages with research into responsible materials, exploring innovative fibres and more conscious processes. Pattern cutting meets sustainability, and every experiment becomes an opportunity to reflect on the impact of design. A dynamic environment shaped by detail and intuition, where each project develops its identity with the future in mind.

Sculpture Lab

It is a space where hands, mind and intuition work together: students model, sculpt and experiment with different materials, from the most traditional to the most innovative.
Here, every student can shape their own artistic language, learning to understand materials and engage with space.
A place open to research, where practice meets creativity and every project emerges from gesture, error and experience.

Painting Lab

It is a space dedicated to the materiality of colour, where surfaces, textures and ever-new expressive possibilities are explored.
In the Painting Lab, every student can experiment freely, moving from classical techniques to more contemporary languages and observing how pigment reacts, expands and interacts with the support.
It is an environment that encourages observation, personal research and the development of a critical eye: here, painting becomes daily practice, process and discovery. A place where the work takes shape step by step through attempts, insights and new perspectives.

Printmaking Lab

In the RUFA Printmaking Lab, tradition meets experimentation.
Here, students work with ink and ideas: they engrave, print and test.
Among presses, plates, papers and colours, every student discovers the value of process, time and gesture.
It is a space where craft becomes visual language and technique turns into creative freedom.

Darkroom

In the RUFA darkroom, photography returns to its origins.
It is a quiet and fascinating space where light becomes matter and every image comes to life through chemicals, film and prints.
Here, students experiment with analogue techniques, learning to observe slowly and develop a more conscious gaze.
A place where the magic of the photographic process is rediscovered through patience, precision and discovery.
Because understanding light, before even capturing it, is the first step towards becoming a photographer.

Photography Studios

The spacious, fully white photography studios are versatile spaces dedicated to photo shoots, video sets, meetings and exhibitions. They are designed to host practical exercises, personal projects and complex productions, as well as visually striking performances.
Here, future photographers find everything they need to grow: professional equipment, technical support and a place where they can experiment freely

RUFA Space

A laboratory of ideas and people.

RUFA Space is dedicated to education, but is also open to the city.
A space where learning continues in new ways and art becomes intertwined with the everyday life of the neighbourhood.

The space hosts talks, workshops, festivals, performances, multimedia installations, hackathons, television productions and presentations, photo shoots and film shoots, exhibitions and events of every kind.
