Why RUFA

THE FINE ARTS ACADEMY IN ROME AND MILAN THAT PREPARES CREATIVES FOR THE FUTURE

Choosing the right Fine Arts Academy today is not easy: the range of courses is broad and varied, and identifying a programme that truly reflects your aspirations requires clarity, transparency and vision.

Choosing RUFA means joining an Academy that does more than teach: every year, it produces culture, projects and real connections. RUFA is an active creative ecosystem, recognised nationally and internationally, where education, experimentation and the professional world coexist in the same space.

Advanced academic education with a strong practical approach

At RUFA, you combine theory and practice from your very first year.
More than 70% of activities are devoted to laboratories, projects, real sets, workshops and activities led by professional lecturers working in art, design, cinema, communication, fashion and new media.
This learning-by-doing approach enables you to turn theoretical knowledge into skills that can be applied immediately in the creative industries.

A creative and multidisciplinary hub

IN AN EVER-EVOLVING SECTOR, THE ABILITY TO ADAPT AND COMBINE DIFFERENT LANGUAGES IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS.

Studying at RUFA means becoming part of a cultural hub where art, design, communication, cinema, music and technology interact every day, thanks to elective subjects, talks and workshops that allow you to move freely across contemporary arts and technologies. RUFA students can choose subjects outside their own programme from more than 600 courses offered across the different academic programmes.

At RUFA, interdisciplinarity is a structured teaching method. At the heart of this approach is the ExtraDiary programme, comprising talks and workshops with renowned figures from the industry, who guide our students through project weeks or in-depth discussions on specific cross-disciplinary topics, bringing students from different programmes together to work on shared projects.

The events created by our students are also a concrete example of collaboration between different professions and skill sets. Fashion Persona is a project that brings together and integrates different languages, techniques and perspectives from the schools of Sustainable Fashion Design, Set Design, Multimedia and Game Arts and Cinema.

This model reflects how today’s creative industries actually work, with different skills coming together in teams to achieve a shared goal.

At the Milan campus, sharing spaces with institutions such as Saint Louis College of Music and the Scuola Politecnica di Design creates a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment that encourages experimentation and a contemporary outlook. The same spirit can be found across RUFA’s different art schools.

An Academy that produces: events, exhibitions, festivals and showcases

RUFA is not simply a place of study, but a continuous cultural producer. Every year, the Academy organises and participates in a rich programme of public activities involving students, lecturers, professionals and institutions. These settings allow students to engage with real audiences and test themselves in a professional context.

Real projects with companies and institutions

During their academic studies, RUFA students work on projects commissioned by real companies and institutions.

Collaborations with companies provide practical experience, allowing students to work with professional briefs, real constraints and project responsibilities, while building a credible portfolio even before graduating.

Connections with the professional world

At RUFA, engagement with the professional world is not optional: it is an integral part of the programme.

Every student completes a compulsory curricular internship with a company, studio or institution, accessed through the Career System platform, which connects students, alumni and companies. RUFA has established a Career Service office for guidance, placement and professional development, enabling a smoother transition from education to employment and narrowing the gap between study and professional practice.

International study trips

RUFA promotes learning beyond the classroom through annual study trips, now organised as three structured opportunities each year.

RUFA study trips focus on visual communication and fashion. Although they do not involve every programme at the same time, they provide a tangible extension of classroom learning, an opportunity to engage with international art scenes and an experience that strengthens independence, vision and professional awareness.
This is a growing model designed to expand progressively.

Studying art and design in two strategic cities

Choosing RUFA means studying within two genuine creative ecosystems, rather than simply attending a university campus. Rome and Milan are two complementary centres for anyone seeking a career in art, design, cinema and visual communication. RUFA is present wherever creativity is produced, explored and turned into a profession.

Rome offers a unique setting for students of visual arts, cinema, photography and set design. It is not only a city of historical heritage, but a place that continues to generate images, languages and cultural content. Studying in Rome means engaging with cinema, audiovisual production and visual storytelling, working closely with museums, foundations, festivals and independent spaces, and developing critical thinking and depth of design. Rome is the ideal place for anyone seeking to build a vision, a method and a personal language.

Milan is Italy’s leading hub for design, fashion, visual communication and creative innovation. Studying in Milan means joining an ever-evolving network where you can work on real briefs and tangible projects, connect with studios, companies, agencies and start-ups, and develop a professional, competitive and market-oriented approach. Milan prepares you to present, deliver and produce.

Having campuses in two cities also gives you the opportunity to spend one or more semesters at either location.

Rome offers history, culture and the visual arts; Milan connects you with design, fashion and innovation.

Personal growth and practical support

RUFA BELIEVES THAT EDUCATION IS NOT ONLY PROFESSIONAL, BUT ALSO PERSONAL AND RELATIONAL.

At RUFA, you grow not only as a creative professional, but also as a person. For this reason, you will also have access to:

The programme is designed to support you from your initial choice through to entering the professional world, combining personal care with professional expertise.
