Scholarships

With the aim of making access to education increasingly inclusive, RUFA offers scholarships for Bachelor and Master of Arts Programmes and Academic Master’s Programmes.

The scholarships are intended for talented young people who wish to begin an academic journey at our Academy and require financial support.

Call for Italian and EU students

Bachelor of Arts Programmes

Scholarships available

  • Rome: 15 scholarships

  • Milan: 7 scholarships

Eligible programmes: Painting; Sculpture and Installation; Set Design; Cinema; Design; Sustainable Fashion Design; Photography and Audiovisual; Graphic Design; GD – Comics and Illustration; Multimedia and Game Art.

Scholarship value: ranging from €10,000.00 to €2,500.00 per year, depending on the session (renewal for the 2nd and 3rd years is subject to earning the required credits/passing the required examinations).

The scholarship call is a single document valid for the entire year. However, five application sessions are activated throughout the year, each with its own application opening date, dedicated application form and specific deadline.

Selection criteria (financial circumstances)

2026 ISEE threshold: €40,000.00. Assessment by an academic committee during the admission sessions, based on the portfolio and the outcome of the motivational interview.

Renewal requirements (merit)

  • Progression to the 2nd year: 40 CFA earned by the end of the autumn session

  • Progression to the 3rd year: 95 CFA earned by the end of the autumn session

Master of Arts Programmes

Scholarships available

  • 10 scholarships

Eligible programmes: Set Design; Painting; Performance Art; Sculpture; Printmaking; Visual and Innovation Design; Multimedia Arts and Design; Computer Animation and Visual Effects; Film Arts.

Scholarship value: ranging from €5,000.00 to €2,000.00 per year, depending on the session (renewal for the 2nd year is subject to earning the required credits/passing the required examinations).

Joint assessment by a committee: consistency of the academic path (entry qualification), degree/diploma grade, thesis/portfolio or, alternatively, thesis abstract, outcome of the motivational interview.

Call for EU and non-EU students

Bachelor and Master of Arts Programmes

Thanks to special funding from the International Office, international students taking part in the BA/MA Admission Session on 20 July will automatically be eligible to receive extraordinary financial support ranging from €2,000 to €5,000 towards tuition fees. Scholarships will be awarded based on candidates’ performance in the admission test.

Selection criteria
Best portfolios and admission test; selection by the academic committees. The scholarship will be renewed in the years following the first only upon earning the required credits and passing the required examinations. (PORTFOLIO GUIDELINES)

To take part in the selection process, applicants must submit the scholarship application form and attach their portfolio and a motivational letter. Applicants must register for the admission test at the same time. Scholarships will be awarded at the end of the admission test session.

Non-cumulative nature: RUFA international scholarships cannot be combined with other RUFA discounts/scholarships.

Note: applicants who submit a portfolio but do not take the admission test during the indicated session are not eligible. Applicants may apply only once per academic year (applicants from the January session may not take part in other RUFA calls during the same academic year).

Students who have submitted a portfolio but have not taken the admission test during the session indicated above will not be considered eligible for the scholarship.

Renewal requirements (merit)

The scholarship is awarded for the first year and must be confirmed each year for the standard duration of the programme. For the first year, the scholarship is awarded on the basis of the portfolio and admission test, while renewal for subsequent years is subject to specific requirements.

Students must earn at least the following CFA with the following weighted average:

  • First-Level Academic Diploma Programme > 2nd year = 40 CFA (by the end of the autumn examination session). Weighted average: 27/30
  • First-Level Academic Diploma Programme > 3rd year = 85 CFA (by the end of the autumn examination session). Weighted average: 27/30
  • Second-Level Academic Diploma Programme > 2nd year = 40 CFA (by the end of the autumn examination session). Weighted average: 27/30

Academic Master’s Programmes

For Italian, EU and non-EU students

For each of the 4 Academic Master’s Programmes, RUFA offers:

  • 1 scholarship covering 50% of the tuition fee

  • 1 scholarship covering 30% of the tuition fee

    (the reduction is deducted directly from the tuition fee)

RUFA offers:

• 3 scholarships covering 30% of the tuition fee for the following programmes: Art Curating and Management, Cinema and New Formats Production and Photography and Italian Cultural Heritage.

• 2 scholarships covering 50% of the tuition fee for the following programmes: Design Management and Photography and Italian Cultural Heritage.

Academic and artistic merit, assessed by a committee of experts (academic profile, thesis, portfolio, projects and outcome of any interview).

Frequently Asked Questions

Submit a portfolio (PORTFOLIO GUIDELINES) through the scholarship application form with at least ten digital images.

What to submit

  • Portfolio in PDF format (max 15 MB) with at least 10 digital images

  • List of works: image number, title, technique/medium, dimensions (H×W or H×W×D)

  • Motivational letter

  • Registration for the admission test during the same session as the scholarship call

Programmes allowing video submissions

  • Applicants to Cinema (First Level) and Film Arts (Second Level) may submit a short film by email to concorsi@unirufa.it or via a link included in the portfolio/motivational letter.

  2. Prepare your application (PDF portfolio, motivational letter, documents required by the call).

  3. Register for and take the admission examination during the same session as the scholarship call.

  4. Meet all deadlines and enrolment requirements.

  5. If you are awarded a scholarship, check the annual renewal requirements (CFA and weighted average, where applicable).

Scholarships from external institutions

MAECI – Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation

Scholarships are available to foreign students and Italian citizens residing abroad (IRE) to promote cultural, scientific and technological cooperation and the dissemination of Italian language and culture. Programmes must be undertaken at Italian institutions that are state-run or legally recognised.

Right to Education – LazioDiSCo

RUFA students may apply for the scholarships and services provided under the Right to University Education (DSU), according to the criteria set out in the annual call issued by the Regional Agency for the Right to University Education in Lazio (LazioDiSCo – “La Sapienza” territorial office).
