RUFALab

Research as a creative driving force

Research lies at the heart of RUFALab: it is its driving force and its reason for being. It is a place where thought, experimentation and production come together, transforming ideas into tangible projects through digital fabrication processes and interdisciplinary practices.

Digital Fabrication Laboratory

A dynamic and vibrant academy such as RUFA could not be without a digital fabrication laboratory: a space where art and technology converge, designed to support contemporary creative languages. RUFALab has a particular focus on product design, lighting and multimedia design, while supporting every design and creative approach developed within the Academy.

The laboratory is equipped with 3D printers, milling machines and laser cutters, as well as a wide range of tools for carving, sculpting, modelling, building and assembling. These facilities allow students to experiment with materials, forms and processes, transforming a design into an object and an idea into a prototype.

RUFALab’s main purpose is to bridge the gap between thought, concept development and production. In education for the creative professions, the ability to test ideas immediately is of fundamental value. Laboratory activities are coordinated by lecturer Giorgio Marcatili and his team, who support students and lecturers in using the equipment and throughout installation and production processes.
