The short artistic drawing course is designed to meet the needs of those approaching drawing for the first time as well as those who want to acquire new techniques and greater confidence by building on their existing foundations.

The foundations of mark-making

Translating reality onto paper becomes possible thanks to a guided journey through the foundations of freehand drawing, before moving on to more complex aspects through gradual individual activities, including an outing dedicated to life-drawing exercises.

At the end of the course, participants who have attended at least 8 of the 10 scheduled lessons will receive a certificate of attendance, which may be used for the possible recognition of 2 CFA academic credits.

Observing forms and volumes

Topics covered include: recognising basic geometries in drawing, observing and reproducing different forms, managing the space of the blank sheet, reproducing proportions, understanding more complex forms, giving volume to the subject through chiaroscuro and halftone, becoming familiar with the basic principles of perspective, and reproducing the human figure from sketch to realistic drawing.

Objectives: during the Artistic Drawing course, each participant has the opportunity to develop a personal path to learn how to observe and synthesise what they see on paper, starting with simple subjects and gradually moving towards increasingly complex ones.

INTRODUCTION
– Basic drawing concepts;
– interpreting reality through drawing.

THE FOUNDATIONS
– Geometry in drawing;
– how to manage space;
– reproducing simple objects through proportions (from life and photographs);
– drawing more complex forms starting from the sketch.

CHIAROSCURO AND HALFTONE
Giving three-dimensionality and volume to the drawing through chiaroscuro and halftone.

PERSPECTIVE
– One-point perspective;
– two-point perspective;
– applying perspective in drawing.

ANATOMY
– General concepts of anatomy and proportions of the human body;
– reproducing the proportions of the human body through life drawing;
– reproducing the human figure from sketch to final drawing.

LIFE DRAWING
The course includes one or more outings with life-drawing exercises involving natural subjects, people and monuments, depending on each participant’s interests.

Materials:
– White A3 Canson pad with smooth or semi-rough paper;
– drawing pad for sketches and preliminary studies;
– B, 2B, 6B pencils
– eraser and kneaded eraser;
– pencil sharpener;
– ruler, straightedge and set square.

Comic artist, illustrator and colourist, born in Rome in 1983. He began working as a comic artist in 2006 with small publications for Edizioni Bd, Cut-up publishing, Tunué and Comics Provider, as well as in advertising for Sky, Studio Universal, FIGC, the Italian Ministry of Agricultural Policies, Ferrari Spa, Scar Film and the Italian Ministry of Transport. In the following years, in Italy, he collaborated with Aurea editoriale (Galaxy Lion, Garibaldi), Editoriale Cosmo (Le nebbie di Caporetto), Panini comics (Il ragazzo invisibile), TIWI (We Race comic: Ferrari, Tintoretto: un ribelle a Venezia), Tunué (7 Crimini), Sergio Bonelli editore (Attica). Abroad, he has worked for the American market: IDW Publishing (DRIVE, G.I. JOE), BOOM Studios (Sons of Anarchy); for the Indian market (Space junkies) and the Irish market (Ash airways). He founded the Skeleton Monster collective, with which he organises events in Italy and creates independent publications (WRONG, Inchiostrato non mescolato).
Also active in the publishing sector, with Round Robin editrice he illustrated the graphic novel “e lui che mi sorride”, with which he won the Siani Award in 2011, and “Bulletproof Diaries: Afghanistan: storie di una reporter di guerra”, written by journalist Barbara Schiavulli. Both were distributed at newsstands by PaperFirst in new editions in 2020. In illustration, he has collaborated with Regione Lazio (Rome Film Fest) and Rizzoli Libri (Lercio). He has taught comics since 2020.

The links between form, structure and function of objects. Study of the principles underlying a sustainable design methodology and the different strategies. Realization of a complete project: prototype, model or layout.	6
Knowledge of common graphic elements and tools for technical drawing: construction graphics, metric scales, basic elements of orthogonal projections, axonometric projections and techniques for architectural metric survey. Representation of an architecture, or parts of it, with furnishing elements and details, using the most appropriate scales.	6
AutoCad: basic commands and principles. Hatches, backgrounds and masking, texts, dimensions. Creation and application of dimensioning blocks on scale 1:3 of the drawing, modification of existing objects, raster graphics, insertion of squares and scale ratios. Development of an assigned project: representation of plans, sections, prospects and details.	6
Realization of concrete objects starting from intuitions, graphic sketches, design forms not yet finalized. All the way to three-dimensional models that conclude the design process. Final report related to the work carried out during the course, as well as time and costs estimates for the production of the final object.	6
Focus on the peculiarities of sustainable design materials and their rational use in industrial production. Assessment of the physico-chemical and mechanical properties of the materials analyzed; in relation to the technologies, advantages and risk levels related to their processing. Deepening of the characteristics of natural and artificial materials such as wood, stone, stoneware, resin, composites, etc., in relation to their practical applications, with the aim of identifying their requirements and evaluate the appropriate and sustainable choice according to the type of project.	8
Learning the correct method of analyzing objects, ideas and contemporary design forms. Encouraging the development of a critical sense in the acquisition and review of historical data. International design context and movements from the late nineteenth century to the second world war.	6
First approach to developing and drafting interior spaces. Study of shapes and space. Understanding measurements based on functional and ergonomic standards connected with humans.	12

Introduction to parametric modeling with an overview of the software Rhinoceros, used in the job market. Two-dimensional parametric design and three-dimensional modeling. Photography in a virtual environment: lights and materials for rendering. Control parameters for 3D printing.	6
Design knowledge necessary for the realization of models and prototypes using innovative digital technologies. Development of theoretical and practical activities to become aware of digital production systems such as: 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC milling.	4
