“Buoni Propositi” – The Short Film
A New Year’s Eve dinner, six friends in their thirties and a seemingly harmless game: sharing their resolutions for the year ahead. Amid toasts, jokes and social conventions, the convivial atmosphere gradually gives way to hidden tensions, personal vulnerabilities and uncomfortable truths.
“Buoni Propositi” is a contemporary comedy with a cynical edge, exploring the contradictions of a generation caught between aspirations, frustrations and the need for recognition. Through sharp dialogue and increasingly uncomfortable situations, the film tackles themes such as identity, social masks, privilege and bourgeois hypocrisy.
In just 20 minutes, an evening meant to celebrate a new beginning turns into a merciless confrontation with oneself and others.
Italy, 2026 | Running time: 20 minutes | Language: Italian, with English subtitles | Genre: Comedy, dramedy.
Meet the Director: Q&A with Lorenzo Santo
An opportunity to discover what it takes to develop an independent film project, from the initial idea to its realisation, through the first-hand experience of a young filmmaker.
Born in Lecce in 1999, Lorenzo Santo is an Italian director, screenwriter and editor. He studied at RUFA, graduating with top marks in both the Bachelor of Arts in Cinema and the Master of Arts in Film Arts.
Throughout his studies, he combined his academic training with extensive professional experience in the audiovisual industry, working on television and film productions. Among these was his involvement in Grand Tour by Miguel Gomes, which won the Best Director Award at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
Over the years, he has directed several short films and documentaries, experimenting with different cinematic languages and narrative approaches, while working across directing, screenwriting and editing. His works include Rinato (2021), Indelebili (2022), Fuel (2023), Le ruote non hanno i raggi (2024) and Il Respiro della Notte (2025).
With “Buoni Propositi” (2026), he continues to develop his distinctive voice as a filmmaker, bringing to the screen a critical perspective on relationships and the contradictions of contemporary society.
