SCREENING AND TALK WITH EMANUELE CAVA

RUFA welcomes Emanuele Cava, writer and creative producer of the documentary Giulio Regeni – Tutto il male del mondo, for a talk exploring the role of documentary filmmaking as a powerful medium for storytelling, preserving memory, and seeking the truth.

On 11 November at 10:00 AM, at the RUFA Campus in Via Libetta, 7, RUFA will welcome Emanuele Cava, writer and creative producer of documentaries and docuseries, for a screening of Giulio Regeni – Tutto il male del mondo, directed by Simone Manetti and winner of the 2026 Nastro della Legalità Award.

Through insights into the making of the documentary, Emanuele Cava will guide students in exploring the relationship between cinema and reality, examining the value of personal testimonies, narrative choices, and the responsibilities involved in portraying stories of significant social and civic relevance.

The event, curated by Valentina Toscano, RUFA Industry Relations Manager, will offer an opportunity to reflect on the role of audiovisual storytelling as a means of preserving memory and raising awareness, with the power to encourage dialogue and contribute to public debate.

The Documentary: A Story of Truth and Justice

Giulio Regeni – Tutto il male del mondo retraces the story of the Italian researcher who disappeared in Cairo on 25 January 2016, while pursuing a PhD at the University of Cambridge, focusing on Egypt’s independent trade unions.

Through the testimonies of his parents, Paola Deffendi and Claudio Regeni, and their lawyer, Alessandra Ballerini, the documentary chronicles a long struggle for truth and justice, giving voice to a case that has profoundly affected public opinion in Italy and internationally.

The film explores ten years of investigations and legal proceedings, offering a powerful reflection on human rights, academic freedom, and the importance of preserving memory.

Produced by Ganesh Produzioni and Fandango, the documentary received the 2026 Nastro della Legalità Award, presented as part of the Nastri d’Argento.

Following the screening, a discussion with Emanuele Cava will provide an opportunity to explore the creative, production-related, and ethical challenges involved in making a documentary about a story of such profound social and civic significance.

The discussion will also encourage reflection on the power of images and personal testimonies, the construction of documentary narratives, and cinema’s ability to contribute to collective memory and public debate.
