Andrés Rafael Zabala

A graduate in Cinema and TV and a qualified camera operator, Andrés Rafael Zabala has directed documentaries and reality shows for Canale 5, Rai 2, Studio Universal, Tele+ and Sky. As an advertising director, he has produced videos and commercials for major national and international brands and institutions. Andrés Rafael Zabala has also made 9 short films that have received awards at national and international festivals. In 2014, he made the independent feature film “A DARK ROME” (93 minutes – original language: English): in addition to being selected for festivals in various countries, it won the “Best Thriller of 2015” award at the Macabre Faire Film Festival in New York.
In 2023, Andrés Rafael Zabala completed his second feature film, “MALLEUS” (92 minutes – produced by ROSSO18 – Italy). “MALLEUS” was screened at 8 international festivals in as many countries and won the “Best Director of a Foreign Language Feature” and “Best Picture of the Festival” awards at the Fest Film International in Edinburgh. “MALLEUS” also won the “Best Feature Film” and “Best Actress Award” (Rosanna Fedele) at the NYCA New York Cinematography Awards. In 2020, his book “Disobedient Directors – Yesterday’s and Today’s Cinematography Beyond the Rules” was published (Edizioni Efesto – 2020). For several years, he has also been teaching Directing and Cinematography.
