RUFA Editorial Space

The corner – open to visitors throughout the year at the newsstand at Via Ostiense 151, Rome – brings together magazines, comics, illustrations, annual reports and photography publications produced within the Graphic Design, GD – Comics & Illustration, Fotografia e Audiovisivo and Visual and Innovation Design programmes, alongside corporate materials that offer an insight into the RUFA world. It is a constantly growing archive that brings into view, in the heart of the Ostiense district, work developed through study and creative practice that too often remains confined within the walls of the Academy.

Behind every publication on display lies a process of research, revision, editorial decision-making and many hours of work: these are not simply classroom exercises, but fully developed projects, conceived, curated and completed with the same rigour as in a professional editorial environment. RUFA Editorial Space was created to give this work the visibility and recognition it deserves, reaffirming the role of study not as a preparatory stage, but as cultural production in its own right.

The project also tells another story: that of a publishing world that is not disappearing, but changing shape. Alongside the large-scale numbers of traditional distribution, a new space is growing around small print runs, independent projects, graphic experimentation and new forms of storytelling — a field that younger generations of editors, illustrators, photographers and graphic designers are reinventing page by page. Bringing this work into a newsstand, alongside the newspapers and magazines read by the city every day, means affirming that print remains a space for authorship, and that its new protagonists are already being trained in RUFA’s classrooms.

RUFA Editorial Space is not a static showcase: the content of the corner will evolve over time, following the release of new student publishing projects and remaining a living, constantly changing reflection of the Academy’s cultural production.
