Twenty Years of Italian Cinema – Graphic Design Students

Knowledge of History allows creatives to reflect on the past, understand the present and outline a path for the future. In particular, the study of the Arts becomes a valuable source of inspiration for imagining and creating works that are original, aesthetically impactful and conceptually meaningful.

During the second-year Graphic Design course in “History of Contemporary Art”, taught by Prof. Genny Di Bert, after the theoretical in-depth studies and the related papers produced by the students, the focus shifted from conceptual reflection to practical application. The young graphic designers were asked to reinterpret some of the Historical Avant-Garde movements as inspiration for designing posters addressing two current issues: the emotional state experienced by young people, and others, as a result of Covid-19, and the environmental problem, which is still often underestimated.

The poster was chosen as the preferred means of communication for expressing and spreading direct and concise messages: visual syntheses enriched by the interplay of different languages and images. An ever-relevant method in which graphic design and art blend together beautifully.
