Michela Becchis (Rome, October 28, 1963) is an art historian, art critic, and independent curator. Her research and scholarly work span both medieval and contemporary art. She closely follows artists throughout their creative processes. Her research focuses particularly on the relationship between art, history, and political movements, as well as on the circulation of figurative and linguistic models across cultures and between cultures.
She has taught the History of Medieval Art, Contemporary Art, and Art History Education at the Universities of L’Aquila, Chieti, Rome Tor Vergata, and Suor Orsola Benincasa University of Naples, both in regular degree programs and in teacher training courses (SSIS, TFA, and PAS). She has collaborated with the International University Institute of Fiesole, the Giacomo Leopardi School of Advanced Studies (University of Macerata), and the Italian campus of the Rhode Island School of Design.
She is an editor for the Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani (Biographical Dictionary of Italians), co-director of the Castelnuovo di Porto International Photography Festival, and a contributor to Il Manifesto, Alias, and ArtApart.
As Project Manager of the Associazione Officina delle Culture (organizing projects such as Estate Romana, Notte dei Musei, Contemporaneamente, and Eureka!), she curates multidisciplinary programs that bring together different artistic genres and cultural traditions, fostering collaborations among artists from around the world through visual, theatrical, performative, and musical experimentation.
