Advanced Painting

Purpose: The advanced course is conceived as a space for artistic research and painting practice, where each participant can develop an individual path under the guidance of the lecturer.
Unlike the Foundations course, the programme will be largely shaped around the expressive and project-based needs of each participant. Students may therefore join the course with one or more projects already at the concept or production stage, to be developed and explored further during the lessons.
The lecturer will guide each participant in selecting the techniques and processes best suited to their research, focusing on the relationship between composition, material, colour, gesture and the conceptual definition of the work. The individual path will be complemented by theoretical sessions, thematic exercises and the analysis of works and artists from art history.
During the course, the following areas may be explored in greater depth in relation to each individual project:

– oil painting and vinyl emulsion colours;
– composition and construction of pictorial space;
– colour, material and chromatic harmonies;
– mark-making, gesture and interpretation of reality;
– layering, removal and erasure;
– the relationship between figure and background;
– construction, fragmentation and deconstruction of the image.

FINAL VERNISSAGE
At the end of the course, where there is a shared interest among participants, a public vernissage day may be organised, during which the works developed by the participants will be presented. The exhibition provides an opportunity to engage with the selection, presentation and public sharing of one’s work; the show will be curated by Maestro Guido D’Angelo in collaboration with the group of students taking part in the course.

Guido D’Angelo, artist and lecturer in Painting Disciplines, was born in Rome in 1971, where he lives and works. He graduated with highest honours from the Academy of Fine Arts of Rome under the artist Gino Marotta and obtained his teaching qualification in Painting Disciplines in 2008. In 2009, he earned a Master’s degree in Education Sciences from Niccolò Cusano University.
In 1996, he was among the founders of the “SANGIORGIO” group, dedicated to technical experimentation with Multiverse Slide Projections, inspired by the historic “Lanterna Magika”. In 2005, in Berlin, he launched the ALIACORPORA PROJECT, a collective project focused on the concepts of Action-Image-Environment. From 2006 to 2010, he collaborated with the artist Paolo Cotani. In 2013, he founded the MAGTRE project. In 2020, he founded the KHLAB Kaspar Hauser Laboratory project.

His research focuses on painting, understood primarily as a language and a process-based system. His work also extends to installation-based approaches, using a variety of materials including rubber, metal, wood and fabric.

Since 2018, he has been a lecturer in Techniques and Technologies for the Visual Arts at the RUFA School of Fine Arts.
