Christian Cerullo is a versatile designer, initially graduating in editorial graphics where he studied graphic design and the use of paper as a means of communication, before deciding to focus on digital product design, UX design and human-machine interaction. His strong passion for using technology for the benefit of people led him to study brand concept and products that place people at the centre of the system and make the relationship with the consumer unique and constantly evolving, providing the foundations that led to the creation of his thesis project Metrome. The key word in his work is fluidity, projects that adapt to different touchpoints and overcome the barriers between the physical and digital worlds. Strongly influenced by the work of leading figures in the world of product design such as Donald Norman and Dieter Rams, he decided to dedicate his work to the emerging world of decentralisation and blockchain, where he currently works.
Metrome
Metrome is a data-driven visual system whose aim is to create a “human” identity for the city of Rome. The context in which the project operates is the underground, a means of transport used daily by citizens. Metrome places people at the centre of the system through the movement rhythm generated within the stations, which translates into the city’s temporary emotional state. It uses a smart wristband that allows tickets to be validated and monitors travellers’ heart rates. The emotional states generate the visual identity and feed the music and map services provided by the app.
Metrome is based on the participatory value of citizens, who contribute to the functioning of the service they themselves use.
