Marco De Rosa was born in Rome on 9 November 1991. He attended the Sculpture programme at RUFA – Rome University of Fine Arts – where he obtained his Second-Level Academic Diploma in 2015. Between 2012 and 2015 he worked as an assistant with various artists, including sculptor Simone Bertugno. In 2016, together with other artists of his generation, he founded Spazio In Situ, an artist-run space in the Roman district of Tor Bella Monaca, where he currently works. His artistic research focuses on concepts such as space, reality and uselessness, understood as the static concept of an apparently perfect but purposeless world. He works through various media including photography, painting and installation, creating works that the artist himself defines as non-ready-made.
Geometria organica
Science has always supported humankind in the discovery of phenomena that seek to reveal the mechanisms governing our world. Using geometry, which Marco adopts as the foundation of his work, the artist has made visible what, for him, is the virtual grid in which we live and position ourselves. Taking nature as a creative “mother” (Natura naturans), which generates organically, he comes to examine the very close relationship between geometry, mathematics and humankind itself.
Within the concept of identity, in relation to the individual and to other realities, he developed various formal hypotheses that led him to question the idea of geometry as an aesthetic phenomenon, eventually using the expression from which his thesis takes its name: “Geometria organica”.
