Margherita Marzari, born in Trento on 17 June 1996
She graduated with honours in Set Design from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Verona and completed the two-year Film Arts programme at RUFA. Also in Rome, she attended a Master’s programme in stop-motion animation at IED.
She took part in opera productions as a stage assistant and, after moving to Rome, worked as a camera operator, dop and colorist on several short films. During the same period, she also had the opportunity to direct two of her own projects, Bianco come la neve e il suo mantello and Effetto collaterale.
Since January 2021 she has worked as an assistant and junior colorist at Chroma Division, a post-production collective.
EFFETTO COLLATERALE
Effetto collaterale is a short film shot almost entirely in black and white, in which the search for colour takes on a powerful narrative role: yellow is the elf who appears to Sergio during the hunt and haunts him, guiding him towards restoring a relationship he believed he had lost forever.
The side effect is the ringing Sergio hears in his ears when he fires the gun. It is also, and above all, the very manifestation of Sergio’s unconscious desire to change his life and retrace his steps.
Who is to blame for everything that happens? Who sets the action in motion?
Is the elf who appears and shows Sergio the way real, or is he a contemporary Puck who directs the story, manipulating events and leading Sergio back to the larch tree? Or is he a hallucination. A product of the mind that, for a moment, brings colour to everything around him, an unforeseen effect of isolation.
I wanted to tell a story of reconnection, of restoring a relationship that has deteriorated over time, between a father and daughter who have lost sight of one another but who are still deeply connected by a bond that can always be recovered, provided someone is willing to take the first step.
