RUFA is a partner of the 2025 Milano Film Festival

RUFA joins the 2025 edition of Milano Film Festival as a partner, a major event that will enliven the city with films, series, exhibitions, concerts, talks, performances, and installations.
A programme that crosses languages, neighbourhoods and generations, offering new visions and new stories every day.

In this edition, RUFA will take part with two exclusive masterclasses held by film directors and lecturers from the Academy Manfredi Lucibello and Alain Parroni, as well as the screening of two short films created by RUFA Alumni as part of the Academy Shorts section.

The RUFA masterclasses

Two training sessions designed for those who want to deepen their understanding of filmmaking and gain insight into the creative and production process behind the making of a film.

“The director and the production process: their role in the making of a film”

by Manfredi Lucibello (Director, RUFA Lecturer)

Wednesday 4 June – 10:00 AM
Castello Sforzesco – Sala Panoramica

A journey through the fundamental stages a director faces when making a film, from the birth of the idea to its distribution. Starting from the development of the concept and script, the masterclass will explore the relationship between director and screenwriters. It will delve into financing strategies, the role of producers, and opportunities offered by national and European funds. Topics will include pre-production, team selection, casting, and location scouting. The session will examine key departments, the coordination of the direction team, actor direction, and set organisation. Finally, it will address strategies for promotion and distribution, including the creation of trailers and posters, to understand how a film reaches its audience and what role the director plays in this phase.

“How to do a déjà vu: building one’s own language towards a first film by exploring inner imagery”

by Alain Parroni (Director, RUFA Lecturer)

Wednesday 4 June – 4:00 PM
Castello Sforzesco – Sala Viscontea

An exploration of the artistic and production path that accompanied Alain Parroni from the creation of an academic short film to his first professional feature. Starting with the screening of the short *Adavede* (20 minutes), created during his time at RUFA, the session will analyse the research and development process that led to the making of *Una sterminata domenica*. A reflection on the challenges faced by the director, from bold narrative and visual choices to managing risks and uncertainty. Through a candid discussion, Parroni will share how the experience of the short film shaped his perception of reality, helped him define his cinematic language, and prepared him to work with high-level productions as an independent filmmaker. The session will conclude with the screening of the film’s backstage, produced by RUFA Alumni **Mino Capuano** and **Alfredo Giusi**, offering insights into the creative and production process behind the scenes.
