In cinemas from 21 July, L’Arca marks the directorial debut of Giorgio Caporali, a RUFA Cinema graduate from 2022, who also wrote the screenplay.
An important milestone for a young filmmaker who believed in his path and found his voice in independent cinema.
Born in 1997, after the success of several short films screened at national and international festivals – including La tragedia, nominated for the David di Donatello – Giorgio Caporali now signs his first feature film: L’Arca, inspired by two true stories and produced by Undicidue3.
The film tells the story of the encounter between Martin (Francesco Venerando), a young man struggling with societal rules, and Ryan (Malich Cissé, Siccità, The Life Ahead), an African boy who arrived in Italy as an undocumented migrant and, disillusioned by the “European dream”, only wishes to return to his home country. Together with Beatrice (Sabrina Martina), the two set out to repair an old sailing boat to make the journey back to Africa. But what begins as an escape turns into something much deeper and unexpected.
Alongside Francesco Venerando and Malich Cissé, the cast includes Sabrina Martina, Pietro De Silva (Life is Beautiful), Maurizio Di Carmine, Azzurra Martino, Claudio Spadaro and Tommaso D’Ettore.
Behind the camera, Giorgio Caporali directs and writes the screenplay. Cinematography is by Dario Germani, editing by Lorenzo Fanfani, and the original score is composed by Davide Di Francescantonio, with additional tracks by Massimo Macera, Stefano Petrone, Fabrizio Belli and David Cerquetti.
Shot between Rome and Civitavecchia, L’Arca explores powerful themes such as identity, freedom, and belonging, through the honest gaze of a generation searching for answers. Distributed in cinemas by World Movies, the film is a fresh example of young, independent, and courageous filmmaking.
