An opportunity for RUFA students and all Italian artists under 35.
A major call has been published by the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art (GNAM), aimed at artists under 35, for the creation of a large permanent mural in the heart of Rome.
The competition, which offers a €5,000.00 prize in addition to full coverage of production costs, is a concrete opportunity to engage with a transforming public space, contributing one’s artistic vision to an architectural project designed by Mario Cucinella.
The Urban Connections competition aims to enhance a junction between memory and contemporaneity in the heart of Rome. The intervention focuses on a 145-meter-long and 10-meter-high wall located between the new “Crocifisso” Multi-Purpose Center and the Roma San Pietro train station, with the goal of turning it from a barrier into a narrative surface.
The project will take shape within an urban context undergoing profound transformation: the center, designed by architect Mario Cucinella and built by Techbau SpA, hosts student housing, commercial spaces, green areas, and venues for public events.
The artistic intervention will be integrated into this setting as a permanent work capable of dialoguing with the surrounding architecture. The mural will be visible and accessible to those who live in, pass through, or frequent the area: students, commuters, residents, and visitors.
The visual language will unfold along the wall, alternating between graphic, material, or sculptural elements, integrated with greenery and designed to be appreciated up close.
