International ceramic design competition
Applications are now open for the fourteenth edition of the Rometti Prize, an initiative dedicated to discovering and celebrating excellence in the world of design and ceramic art through the vision of a new generation of creatives.
Participation in the Rometti Prize 2026 is reserved for students of Art Academies and design institutes from all over the world. Each participant must submit only one project, with a free theme, capable of combining an artwork with a design object according to their own taste and inclinations.
The projects, which must be submitted to the organizing office by Sunday 24/05/2026, will be evaluated by a jury of experts who will select the best entries (up to 6), admitted to the training internship at the manufactory.
Themes of the competition
To participate, applicants must design a single object, or a series of objects consistent with one another, intended for interior decoration, excluding tableware and kitchen services. The competition requires an artistic ceramic project, with a free theme, which—in line with the Rometti collections—interprets ceramic tradition in a non-conservative way, while opening up to the most advanced international languages, balancing art, craftsmanship and design, with particular attention to decoration and the artistic quality of the pieces.
Some suggestions for developing the project:
• an object that can be created through wheel throwing;
• an object that can be defined as high-end interior decor;
• decorations preferably executed by hand;
• possible use of multiple materials, provided that ceramic remains the predominant material component;
• if other materials or electrical components are used, the project must include all technical information required for production.
Internship at the manufactory
The finalists will be entitled to a training internship lasting one working week at the Rometti Manufactory in Umbertide (Umbria, Italy), scheduled from 20 to 24 July 2026. During the internship, selected students will come into direct contact with ceramic art techniques and will concretely create the prototypes of their projects, in collaboration with the Artistic Director and the specialized craftspeople of the manufactory.
For the entire duration of the internship, participants will receive free board and lodging, local transportation and any transfers organized by Rometti. Attendance at the internship is mandatory for selected students: failure to participate will result in exclusion from eligibility for the final prizes.
Prizes
Among all internship participants (up to six), the following cash prizes will be awarded:
• 1st prize: € 1,000.00;
• 2nd prize: € 600.00;
• 3rd prize: € 400.00.
All prizes are considered gross of applicable taxes. The other three finalists will receive a certificate of attendance for the training internship.
All creations made during the internship may be put into production, possibly with modifications agreed upon with the author. Intellectual property of the works will in all cases remain with the creators.
