Sculpture: in the beginning, there was storytelling.
The short sculpture course aims to teach students various modelling and sculpting techniques through the use of clay, addressing the needs of both beginners approaching sculpture for the first time and those wishing to refine their artistic skills.
The teaching method will begin with a theoretical component, followed by a series of practical exercises designed to develop an understanding of planes and volumes, leading to the creation of a final plaster artwork. The material and size of the final piece will depend on the resources and level of commitment each student chooses to dedicate to their work, with no imposed constraints, but with the guidance of the instructor.
The final project will mark the conclusion of a journey from figurative to abstract, during which the student will gain a deeper awareness of their own artistic expression.

During the course, students will explore the following topics and technical applications:
> Theoretical and conceptual introduction
> Project development
> Educational visit to the Museum of Classical Art – Sapienza University
> Preparation of the armature and sketch
> Beginning of the clay work (maximum height: 30 cm)
> First phase of modelling and development
> Second phase of modelling and development
> Finalisation: last adjustments and preparation of the mould
> Creation of the mould and plaster casting
> Opening of the mould, final cleaning and possible retouching

Cem Kanyar was born in Istanbul. He began his Visual Arts studies at Işık University, then moved to Rome where he earned his degree in Sculpture at RUFA.
Always fascinated by the mechanisms of nature and its many components, he uses every medium available in his artistic work, while privileging concept and narrative as the core elements of his visual language.
Since graduating in 2019, he has collaborated with numerous artists, both as an assistant and as a participant in group exhibitions and events.
