At the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, the issue of gangmaster exploitation and the conditions of migrant workers reached the big screen thanks to “Il Nome di Hope”, the animated short film created by RUFA students, presented at the award ceremony of the collateral Fai CISL prize Persona Lavoro Ambiente.
The short film, produced by Fai CISL Nazionale, addresses a delicate and crucial topic: the conditions of migrant workers living in ghettos, often subjected to exploitation and gangmaster systems. It tells the true story of Hope, a young Nigerian farmworker who died in a fire in the Borgo Mezzanone ghetto (Foggia) five years ago.
With a duration of 15 minutes, the work combines cinema, animation, and illustration to raise awareness of one of the most urgent social issues.
The presentation in Venice, held at the Hotel Excelsior, highlighted the social and cultural value of the project: a concrete example of how the audiovisual language can build bridges between art and civic engagement.
Congratulations to all our students involved for bringing RUFA’s name to an international stage and for giving a voice, through art, to a story that deserves to be told.
