Can a comic change the world?
Can an illustration influence public opinion?
Is it possible to engage in activism through drawing?
These are the questions at the heart of the upcoming RUFA talk, an event exploring the political and social power of drawn imagery.
Starting from the professional experience of Rita Petruccioli, a Rome-based illustrator and comic artist who has often placed her artistic tools at the service of social and political causes, the talk will open up a broader reflection on the role of contemporary comics as a critical, narrative and transformative medium.
Through concrete examples and case studies, the ways in which authors and artists use the language of comics to address urgent issues, raise awareness and generate public dialogue will be analysed.
The meeting is curated by Claudio Spuri, Coordinator of the BA in Graphic Design – Comics and Illustration.
