Julia De Vasconcelos, a student in the RUFA Master’s Programme in Fine Arts, has been admitted to EmergeNYC – Performance Art and Politics, a New York–based program dedicated to artistic research at the intersection of performance and political engagement, currently hosted by BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange.
EmergeNYC is a Latinx-led incubator and affinity network that supports socially engaged artistic practices, offering a space for development and exploration of the intersections between art and activism. The program encourages processes of research, experimentation, and reflection, fostering the creation of new works capable of questioning and redefining dominant narratives.
Founded in 2008 at the NYU Hemispheric Institute and now active in Brooklyn, EmergeNYC brings together an international community of artists — largely BIPOC, migrant, and LGBTQIA+ practitioners — committed to building networks of solidarity and practices of cultural resistance.
Julia’s admission to this context represents an opportunity for growth and exchange within a dynamic and interdisciplinary environment, further reflecting RUFA’s commitment to artistic paths that engage with the social and political issues of our time.
Our congratulations to Julia, along with our best wishes for this new experience in New York.
