RUFA returns to Milano Film Fest 2026 with masterclasses, workshops and screenings dedicated to student cinema.
RUFA confirms its collaboration with the Milano Film Fest 2026, taking place in Milan from 4 to 9 June 2026, renewing an established partnership with an event that brings the city to life through cinema, TV series, visual arts, music and new forms of audiovisual storytelling. The festival presents itself as a multidisciplinary event capable of creating connections between different visual languages and supporting a widespread audiovisual culture, engaging places, communities and audiences across the city.
Following its participation in the previous edition, RUFA returns to the festival with a programme of activities dedicated to education, directing, mise-en-scène and film production, as part of the Academy programme.
Three events that place students, lecturers and professionals at the centre, offering the public the opportunity to enter the creative processes of cinema: from an auteur masterclass to the practical dimension of the set, through to the screening of short films made by RUFA students.
❯ Masterclass – “Being a Director at 31” with Simone Bozzelli
The first event is scheduled for Saturday 6 June at 5:00 PM at CAM Falcone e Borsellino, formerly CAM Garibaldi, in Corso Garibaldi 27, Milan. The masterclass will feature Simone Bozzelli, director and visiting professor at RUFA Milano, who will meet the public and students from the RUFA Three-Year Cinema Programme.
The masterclass, entitled “Being a Director at 31”, will offer an opportunity to reflect on the path of a young filmmaker in contemporary Italian cinema: the relationship between music videos, short films and feature films, the construction of a personal language, working with actors, music and limited time, as well as the choices, mistakes and solutions that accompany every creative process. More than a traditional lecture, the event takes the form of a moving narrative about making cinema today, at a stage in which the search for a personal vision meets production responsibilities, expectations and engagement with the audience.
❯ Workshop – “Mise-en-scène”: when backstage becomes front stage
On Sunday 7 June, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, again at CAM Falcone e Borsellino, RUFA will present the workshop “Mise-en-scène: a shared cinema experience. When backstage becomes front stage”.
The format transforms the film set into an open, accessible and participatory space. Inside the Garden Hub, a small working film set will be recreated, with real equipment, defined roles and scenes to be shot. Students and lecturers will guide the public through what happens behind the camera: how a shot is created, how a directorial decision is made, how sound, cinematography, set design and unexpected events are managed.
The public will not simply observe, but will be able to physically enter the set, trying out some of the crew roles – from director to camera operator, from sound recordist to actor – in a practical, light-hearted and “hands-on” experience. It is a direct way to understand how the same scene can change completely depending on the mise-en-scène choices, confirming cinema as a collective, technical and creative language.
❯ Screening of RUFA students’ short films
RUFA’s programme at Milano Film Fest will conclude on Monday 8 June at 10:00 AM with the screening of a selection of short films made by RUFA students, at Cinema Anteo Milano – Sala Rubino, in Piazza XXV Aprile 8.
The following films will be presented:
“Essere presente scomparendo” by Mino Capuano
“Dennis Mc Nuggets” by Alain Parroni
“Cane di Mannara” by Baldassarre Caradonna
“Stage of Flesh” by Guibert Najarian
The screening represents a moment of public presentation of the students’ work and confirms RUFA’s focus on cinema as a design-based, authorial and professional practice, capable of bringing together visual research, storytelling and experimentation.
With this new participation, RUFA renews its commitment to supporting young talents in the audiovisual field and to creating opportunities for dialogue between academic education, the cultural industry and the public. Milano Film Fest thus becomes a privileged context in which to bring the processes, visions and skills developed within RUFA’s programmes dedicated to cinema and the visual arts beyond the academy.
