Francesca Colonia is the founder and art director of Betterpress Lab, the first traditional and experimental letterpress printshop in Rome. Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, she has developed international and Italian experience, including the Magyar Képzőművészeti Egyetem (Budapest), Künstlerhaus Bethanien (Berlin), Schwartzdruck Edition (Gransee), Museum für Druckkunst (Leipzig), the Rhode Island School of Design and Iowa State University (USA), the University of San Marino and the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. For over ten years she has focused on teaching and research in the field of printmaking. Her work explores the intersection of typography and social engagement, with a strong emphasis on collective making. She works with artists, designers and illustrators, curating exhibitions, workshops and artist residencies.
