Juke Box | fifth residency

The exclusive setting of Villa Marini Cattaneo, in the city of Pordenone, hosts the performance of Juke Box, the fifth stop of “Playing Memories”, before being reprised in Bogotá, Colombia. Playing Memories is a project by the Saint Louis College of Music, produced in co-production with the Conservatorio Alfredo Casella in L’Aquila, the Fondazione Accademia Teatro alla Scala in Milan, RUFA and ISIA Roma.

“Juke Box” is the title of the new artistic residency, conceived by dancer and choreographer Matteo Esposito, who presents an ambitious multidisciplinary show with a strong performative character.

Villa Cattaneo becomes the protagonist of the performance, transforming into a true narrative device: a poetic juke-box capable of evoking not only music, but also memories, scents, and people.

The rooms of the villa, its spaces and pathways, are fragments of a journey through time and mystery. The audience is invited to explore them as parts of a mechanism in motion.

Each setting is a track to be activated, a song fragment to be listened to, a scent to be remembered or a character to be deciphered, whose name we do not know.

We encounter a man who regrets a forbidden love, a woman who bears the weight of distance from her homeland, a writer composing a letter to a never-forgotten friend. Their lives are gradually revealed through hints, installations, and visual and auditory clues.

Welcoming the audience is an enigmatic and silent figure: a masked presence who moves through the rooms like a ferryman of shadows, guiding visitors from the entrance of the villa to the top floor, to the final hall, where live music and dance take the stage. Now the characters interact, dancing to the final track – the one that gives meaning to the entire journey.

The international reprise of the performance will take place in Bogotá, at the Escuela de Artes y Creación – Universidad Sergio Arboleda, a partner institute of this residency, where “Jukebox” will be restaged in a new scenic form designed exclusively for the stage.
