An exhibition exploring the encounter between the individual and the world as the origin of memory. Touch, the threshold of the Self, becomes a bridge between times and experiences, regaining value in the contemporary and digital age. The fragment becomes a living memory — not a static datum but a subjective recollection. The exhibition invites reflection on identity, relationships, and memory through sensitive signals of the contemporary. In an age dominated by digital media, the practice of contact as a tactic of action and experience acquires invaluable meaning. The sensitive fragment thus becomes a precious element and witness of a lived “memory”: no longer a cold archive of data, but a dynamic, affective, and subjective process.

Critical text by Massimiliano Napoli

I like to think of the exhibition Signals from the Contemporary as a research exercise on the sign — an increasingly urgent matter in design and visual communication. It is a space where young designers can test themselves through expressive dimensions of their personality, experimenting with the Self as an interpretative lens on the world. A critical place that promotes analytical habits and broad reflection, essential for strengthening the authorial depth of young designers.

This year, Signals from the Contemporary presents the theme “sensitive memories.” The concept explores the profound nature of contact between the individual and the world as a generative moment of memory. Touch, understood here as a relative threshold of the Self, goes beyond mere sensory perception and becomes a bridge between past, present, and future. In an age dominated by digital media, where questions like the status of the Human, the nature of personal identity, and the regime of the Other become increasingly pressing, the practice of contact as a tactic of living and experiencing acquires priceless value.

It is through this continuous play of action and emotion between the Self and the World that the sensitive fragment takes shape. More or less defined, more or less codified, it presents itself as a precious element — a witness of that experiential sediment we call “memory”: no longer a cold repository of knowledge, but a dynamic and subjective process shaped by our histories and emotional patterns. The exhibition *Signals from the Contemporary. Sensitive Memories* invites us to reflect on the fundamental role of contact in shaping our identities, rooted in our life stories. Keeping them alive.
