«New perspectives on the Ninth Art»
Silvia Moras’ lecture, titled New perspectives on the Ninth Art: original comic pages between collecting, conservation and musealisation, offers a reflection on original comic pages as complex cultural objects, situated at the intersection of the market, private collecting and museum institutions. Starting from the recognition of comics and illustration as forms of contemporary art, the talk will examine practices of acquisition, conservation and promotion, outlining challenges and opportunities for integrating the Ninth Art into cultural heritage. Particular attention will be given to the emerging professional skills required for specialists in the field, spanning curatorship, research and heritage management.
Silvia Moras has over 20 years of experience in organising cultural and artistic events and in visual literacy education. She works in film and media education as a trainer for the National Plan for Cinema and Images in Schools, promoted by the Italian Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education and Merit.
She teaches at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome in the course Conservation and Management of Audiovisual Heritage, where she delivers lectures on the history of the cinémathèque movement and leads workshops on the aesthetics of non-film materials and research project development.
She also collaborates with internationally renowned film festivals and is currently Director of the Museo del Palazzo del Fumetto di Pordenone, where she also serves on the board of directors. A collector of film paratexts – particularly ephemera and fandom materials – she is engaged in research collaborations with several Italian universities.
