Luca Arcangeli juror at San Sebastian

The San Sebastian Film Festival

The “Festival Internacional de Cine de Donostia-San Sebastián” acquired its name in 1955, with the aim of promoting and giving visibility to Spanish cinematography, offering itself as a response to the selection of films presented by the most important festivals (Berlin, Cannes, Venice).

Particularly focused on launching emerging authors, as well as established talent, the Festival is above all an important point of observation not only for national productions, but also for those of Latin-speaking countries.

The event, now in its 69th edition, is universally considered by critics and industry insiders to be one of the biggest festivals in Europe, so much so that it is included in the special Fiapf category of the fifteen most important festivals in the world.

Some of the great contemporary directors have passed through Spanish television: from Paolo Sorrentino to Wim Wenders, from Claude Chabrol to Bong Joon Ho. Krzysztof Kieślowski, Kim Ki Duk, Stephane Brizé and Nanni Moretti.

The Edition 2021 will be held from 17 to 25 September in the city of San Sebastian, at the Tabakalera – Centro Internacional de Cultura Contemporánea, at las Cigarreras square.

The sections that will animate the different days are: “Official section”, “New directors”, “Horizontes latinos”, “Zabaltegi – Tabakalera”, “Perlas”, “Zinemira”, “Savage cinema”, “Culinary cinema”, “The international film students meeting. There will also be retrospectives dedicated to classic cinema.
