Two leading figures in contemporary photography are coming to RUFA: Silvia Camporesi and Alessandra Mauro, authors and key voices on the Italian and international scene.
During the meeting, the two guests will present and explore their books Una foto è una foto è una foto (Einaudi, 2025) and Aprire lo sguardo (Garzanti, 2025), offering a reflection on photography as a critical tool for understanding the contemporary world. The conversation will be moderated by Fabio Severo, journalist, historian and photography critic, as part of the History of Photographic Criticism course, in the presence of RUFA undergraduate students from the Photography and Audiovisual programme.
Silvia Camporesi, an Italian photographer whose work explores memory, identity and landscape through projects connected to the history and transformation of places, presents the book Una foto è una foto è una foto (Einaudi, 2025), in which she reflects on the nature of the photographic image and the meaning of “making photography” today, showing how every shot is not a simple recording of reality, but a construction shaped by choices, interpretations and points of view. Through historical and artistic references, the book invites readers to question the relationship between photography and reality.
Alessandra Mauro, photo editor, curator and historian of photography, Head of the Editorial Area at Contrasto and curator of exhibitions and publications dedicated to contemporary photography and visual culture, presents the book Aprire lo sguardo (Garzanti, 2025), which focuses on visual literacy: the text analyses how images influence our perception of the world and teaches how to read them more consciously, recognising their cultural, social and political implications.
Both are also currently involved in the programme of the newly inaugurated Centro di Fotografia di Roma: Silvia Camporesi with the exhibition Silvia Camporesi. C’è un tempo e un luogo and Alessandra Mauro among the curators of the exhibition Irving Penn. Photographs 1939 – 2007.
The event at RUFA
The event will take place on Wednesday, 25 March 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, at the Aula Magna RUFA, Via Giuseppe Libetta 7.
A valuable opportunity for RUFA students to engage with two authoritative voices and deepen their understanding of photography as a contemporary language capable of narrating and interpreting the complexity of reality.
