STRADE DI CARTA - BANNER - MOSTRA

Paper Roads – A Return to Analogue Identity

On April 9, RUFA presents “Strade di Carta”, a collective exhibition self-produced by second-year students of the Graphic Design. program.
Each student showcases their vision through two original works created using collage and photobooth techniques: two different languages united by the central role of paper as an expressive medium.
The exhibition takes shape as a space for research and experimentation, a place to explore new artistic directions and foster dialogue.

“Photographic experimentation as art”.

by Genny Di Bert

The creative project is divided into two sections: collage and photobooth images.
The first presents personal interpretations of New York. Each student has represented their own vision of the city by assembling visual fragments from newspapers and magazines, creating imaginative compositions that offer a layered image of the “Big Apple”. A tribute to the artistic avant-gardes – from Cubism to Dadaism and up to Pop Art – which turned collage into a tool of innovation and disruption.

The themes explored are multiple and portray a complex and contradictory metropolis, where different cultures and identities coexist: a space in constant motion, between reality and desire.

The section dedicated to photobooth images investigates the concept of contemporary identity. Starting from a standardized format – frontal face and neutral background – students reworked the image until transforming it into an artistic expression. Through repetition, variation, and serial compositions, reflections emerge on memory, recognition, and the loss of individuality.

The historical reference to the Photomaton, invented in 1925, becomes the starting point for a contemporary reinterpretation: photobooth images are “freed” from their documentary function to become visual symbols of an identity in constant transformation.
