Michela Becchis (born 28/10/1963 in Rome), is an art historian, critic and independent curator who divides her studies and researches between medieval and contemporary art; continuously follows artists in their creative process. Her particular interests include the relationship between art, history and political movements, and the circulation of intercultural and transcultural figurative and linguistic models. She has taught Medieval and Contemporary Art History, as well as Art History Education, at the Universities of L’Aquila, Chieti, Rome-Tor Vergata and Naples-Suor Orsola Benincasa, for regular courses, as well as for the SSIS, TFA and PAS programs. She has also collaborated with the International University Institute of Fiesole, the School of Higher Studies-University of Macerata and the Rhode Island School of Design-Rome. She was editor of the Biographical Dictionary of Italians. She is co-director of the International Photography Festival of Castelnuovo di Porto. She writes for Il Manifesto, Alias and ArtAPart. As project manager of the “Officina delle Culture Association”, (Estate Romana, Notte dei Musei, Contemporaneamente and Eureka!), she curates exhibitions that blend different genres and cultures, bringing together artists from around the world for visual, theatrical, performative and musical collaborations.
