Call for the realization of works aimed at protecting the environment opened

On 15 October the call for proposals opened by Istituto Oikos, HelpCode Italia, Acquario di Genova, Comune di Milano and MUSE – Museo delle Scienze di Trento to select young artists who will be commissioned to create three public art installations. The works will be exhibited to the public during 2020 at the Acquario di Genova, in piazza XXIV Maggio in Milan, and at the MUSE in Trento.

The competition is open to artists under 40 resident in Italy. Each artist or collective can present a project idea for the venue in Genoa, Milan or Trento. The proposed installation must have as its basic theme “plastic pollution in the seas” and must be designed for the location of destination. The projects must be sent together with the participation form, the curriculum vitae and the portfolio by 15 November via email. All the necessary documentation can be downloaded from the Istituto Oikos website.

The authors of the three selected projects will be offered the opportunity to create their own work and to participate in an artistic and research residency functional to the finalization of the project idea. Each artist will receive a financial contribution of 8,000 euros for the conception, creation and installation of the work in the chosen location. The president of the jury is Stefano Boeri, architect, urban planner and theoretician who has always been attentive in placing the environmental implications of urban phenomena at the centre of his work. The outcome of the competition will be announced by 25 November and published on the website of Istituto Oikos.

The competition is part of the Life Beyond Plastic project: youth mobilization and implementation of good practices to reduce plastic pollution in the seas, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation.
