Mario Rullo is a designer and art director and a founding member of Vertigo Design. He has been working in the field of visual design and advertising for over 20 years, during which he has built up experiences in visual communication and, in particular, in corporate identity, brand image and wayfinding. He has designed visual identity systems for numerous public authorities and national and international companies, such as: Alenia Spazio, BNL, British Council, Commune of Rome, Finmeccanica, Galileo Industries, Italian Personal Data Protection Authority, Hugo Boss, Intralot, Lacoste, Laterza, Merck Sharp & Dohme, Montblanc, Procter&Gamble, Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Space Alliance, Telecom Italia, Telespazio, Thales, Unicef, Wwf. He teaches Visual Communication at ISIA Rome Design and Isia Pescara, and at Rufa Rome University of Fine Arts, in the Visual and Innovation Design course. Between 2002 and 2008, he was appointed contract professor at the degree programme in Industrial Design of the First Faculty of Architecture at Sapienza University, Rome, in the Visual Communication Design course. He has also participated in seminars and spoken at conferences at the SVA School of Visual Arts of NewYork and Iowa State University. He is a member of and sits on the board of the Lazio branch of AIAP, the Italian Association for Visual Communciation Design (Associazione Italiana Progettazione per la Comunicazione Visiva), and is also a member of Beda, the Bureau of European Design Associations. In 2003, he contributed in founding the Progetto Grafico magazine, of which he was an editor until 2011, and also collaborates with another magazine, DiiD Disegno Industriale. Several of his projects have been published in international visual design journals, such as European Design Annual, Design for made in Italy, Xtreme Italian Brochures, Brochure Parade, Graphic Simplicity, Logomania, Undersign, 1000 ideas by 100 graphic designers, For a good cause. In 2004, he represented Italy with the “Alenia Spazio” at the F2F event in Stuttgart. Among the rewards he has received is the Silver Plaque for Advertising – Institutional Communication Section – for the project “Together in Romance” and the “Marco Borsa” Award.
