RUFA for Marie Claire Italia: students reinterpret the world of beauty

Students from RUFA’s Master’s Degree Programme in Visual and Innovation Design and Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Photography and Audiovisual took part in an editorial project developed in collaboration with Marie Claire Italia, culminating in the publication of their work in the magazine’s Beauty issue.

The initiative was developed as part of Le Prix d’Excellence de la Beauté, the prestigious international award created by Marie Claire that each year celebrates the most outstanding innovations in the beauty and cosmetics industry. Students were tasked with creating original visual interpretations of the winning products, translating their values, features and identity through contemporary photographic and visual design languages.

Coordinated and creatively directed by lecturer and photographer Cinzia Capparelli, the project evolved through direct collaboration with the editorial team of Marie Claire Italia, offering students the opportunity to engage with a real professional environment and gain insight into the dynamics of one of the leading international publications dedicated to fashion and lifestyle.

The project developed from the presentation of the official brief by Marie Claire’s editorial team, before moving into the sharing of the students’ creative proposals, in the presence of RUFA Director Fabio Mongelli and project coordinator Cinzia Capparelli. The production phase involved visual research, set design, experimentation and shooting, leading to the official publication of the projects in the Beauty issue of Marie Claire Italia.

The projects were developed through a multidisciplinary and experimental approach, combining different techniques and visual languages. From historical printing methods such as cyanotype, to photographic still life and experimentation with artificial intelligence, students explored new expressive possibilities for interpreting the world of luxury cosmetics.

The result is a series of images that bring together aesthetic research, design thinking and artistic experimentation, offering an innovative interpretation of the award-winning products while demonstrating how academic education can engage directly with the worlds of publishing, communication and the creative industries.
