Rometti Prize 2021: the finalists

The finalists for the Rometti 2021 Award, the ninth edition of the international competition promoted by the Umbrian manufacturer, have been selected, and among them is our student Ilayda Caylan with the ‘People’ project, developed as part of the Product Design Course by lecturer Floriana Cannatelli.

Despite a difficult academic year, no less than 75 projects made the work of the jury, chaired by Ugo La Pietra, difficult but exciting. In this context, the 2020 edition stage, postponed due to the health emergency, will also be recovered.

The contest, as in the past, aims to promote innovation and originality in the field of ceramic art, opening the doors to young people, a little like what happened in the 1920s and 1930s when Ceramiche Rometti hosted promising young artists who went on to become artists of the calibre of Corrado Cagli, Leoncillo Leonardi and Dante Baldelli.

The experience is being revived today, at the behest of Ceramiche Rometti owner Massimo Monini and artistic director Jean Christophe Clair, with the aim of combining the tradition and unmistakable style of Umbrian manufacturing with the innovation and originality of contemporary art and design.

Eight students will experience a physical presence in the factory, starting on Monday 19 July, with the opportunity to compete for the final prizes.

The selected finalists for the Rometti Prize 2021 are: Dorine Le Grelle (CAD Brussels), Giulia Monzani (ABA Brera), Davide Zago (IED Milan), Ilayda Caylan (RUFA Rome), Andrea Grassi (IED Milan), Edoardo Amato (IED Milan), Joaquim de Abreu Januario (ESAD Lisbon), Lucrezia Dori (ABA Florence).

In addition to a cash prize, the top three will also have the satisfaction of seeing their prototype permanently exhibited in the special section of the Rometti Ceramics Museum. All designers will receive a certificate of participation.
