“Crush me if you can” finalist for the Rometti Prize

RUFA student Isabella Jahns’ project ‘Crash me if you can’ has been selected among the finalists of the historic Rometti Prize.

The finalists have finally been selected for the tenth edition of the Rometti Prize, an international competition organised by the historic Umbrian manufacturer and reserved for students from Art and Design Academies around the world.
The competition aims to promote innovation and originality in the field of ceramic art, opening the doors of the factory to young people, a bit like what happened in the 1920s and 1930s, when Ceramiche Rometti hosted promising youngsters who later became artists of the calibre of Corrado Cagli and Leoncillo Leonardi. An experience that is revived today, at the behest of owner Massimo Monini and artistic director Jean Christophe Clair, with the aim of combining Rometti’s tradition and unmistakable savoir-faire with the innovation and originality of contemporary artistic and design imprints.

Among the more than sixty proposals received, six projects were awarded by the jury, composed of experts and chaired by the great designer Ugo La Pietra. The young creatives will experience an internship at Rometti, from Monday 25 to Friday 29 July, where they will give concrete form to their ideas, side by side with the skilled workers of the factory.

The finalist projects

Crush me if you can, coffee table by Isabella Jahns (RUFA – Rome University of Fine Arts;
Albedo and Nigredo, vase set by Anna Villa (Accademia di Bella Arti di Brera);
Deduzione, vase by Martino Chiesa, Elettra Sarno, Marco Spataro (IED Istituto Europeo di Design, Milan);
Bon-Bom, vase by Tomas Bongermino (IED Milan);
Ritual, vase by Alaina Keys (University of Washington, USA);
Sphere, lamp set by Letizia La Mincia (University of Perugia).

The award ceremony with the final vote will then be held in October and for the first three winners, in addition to a cash prize, there will also be the satisfaction of seeing the prototype permanently exhibited in the special section of the Rometti Ceramics Museum. For everyone there is also the possibility, which has materialised several times in the past editions, that their project will be put into production by the factory, thus becoming an important springboard into the world of work, given the constant collaborations of the factory with designers and companies of the calibre of Ugo La Pietra, Chantal Thomass, Roberto Capucci, Kenzo and Roche Bobois.
