OVERLAPS - CECILIA MILZA - ALUMNI

OVERLAPS

Photography exhibition by Cecilia Milza.
6 – 8 June 2022, RUFA Space, Pastificio Cerere – Via degli Ausoni 7.

OVERLAPS is the first exhibition organised at the Academy as part of the RUFAlumni project, which gives our former students the opportunity to present their work to the public taking advantage of the RUFA Space.

This is a story of rebellious women.

Women who probably in times past would have been interned.
Women who hold within them their powerful wild strength.
Women who are still precluded from full personal expression and therefore find themselves trapped between two ‘realms’, which continue to overlap and clash as they strive to be whole.

An exhibition that narrates an evolutionary path towards awareness.

The order of the tale is developed in stages, peculiar to each woman narrated, but somehow passing the baton on to one another. Thus binding each other to draw strength from the
genealogies, in a process that allows us to strive towards the awareness that leads to liberation.

The author: Cecilia Milza

A photographer, sculptor and filmmaker, she likes to experiment with various materials and techniques. Her artistic research focuses on investigating the inner and social dimensions of the feminine and on Time.
Born in Rome, she moved to Ireland at a very young age, shooting with an analogue SLR camera to chase the phenomenal light that the Green Island gives when least expected. She lived there for many years training in the arts and then returned to Rome to complete her studies. As a photographer, she has collaborated with institutions in Rome, also working on sets and backstage for film productions and teaching in state high schools. She regularly exhibits her works in group exhibitions in Italy and abroad, ranging from installations to graphic design and one of her sculptures, commissioned by the VIII Municipality of Rome, is on permanent display in a Roman park as part of a project against gender discrimination.
