Digital manufactoring laboratory
Research is at the heart of the LAB, its axis for transmitting impulses, its reason for being.
In Rome, San Lorenzo, in the district of creativity, outposts, trends and reasons of the future. There, in the historic industrial building of Pastificio Cerere, is the home of RUFA LAB, the centre of thought and digital production that enables the entire RUFA community to design and create, thanks to the machinery, tools and procedures, halfway between craftsmanship and experimental research.
A lively and vibrant Academy such as RUFA could not but have its own digital manufacturing workshop, spaces for working with plastic and moments in which art and technology merge. Specific for product design, lighting and multimedia design productions, the LAB serves all types of manual and creative approaches at the Academy, given that it is equipped with 3D printers, milling machines, laser cutters and all tools for digging, sculpting, modelling, building, assembling and, in short, creating.
The main purpose of the structure is to shorten the distance between thought, conception and realization, knowing that for the creative professions being the best corresponds, very often, with the possibility of immediately verifying one’s ideas. The management of the laboratory activities is entrusted to the lecturer Giorgio Marcatili and his team that, in addition to the set-up, provides assistance to all students and lecturers involved in the use of the various mechanical and digital devices.

How to access RUFA Lab
To access and use the Prototyping and 3D Modeling Laboratory you need to make a booking through the dedicated Facebook page.
If you cannot make the appointment, it is necessary to make a cancellation at least 24 hours before hand to the email address RUFA Lab, specifying in the subject name, surname and type of reservation, to allow other students to use it.
Before entering RUFA Lab, it is mandatory to register at the Front-Office on the first floor, in order to have your temperature measured and take note of the recommendations to be followed in the Academy for the containment of Covid-19.
