Genti di Calabria, the photographic catalog of Pino Bertelli

14.09.2017

Overturning points of view, commonplaces and the collective imagination. With a single purpose: to build a fertile ground for the new generations. With this mission the work that led to the realization of an extraordinary editorial work, the catalog “Genti di Calabria. Atlante fotografico di geografia umana”, by Pino Bertelli. A photographic journey to tell the soul of a land often forgotten and abandoned, but in which lives a great desire to change. A desire that stands out in so many experiences of virtue, commitment, genius, solidarity, which remove the image of this beautiful region from the one that too many times it was wanted, or due, to draw, which described it as a resigned area of the country, caught between the bad habits of a sick part of its population and the laxity of those who had lost hope for change.

In the catalog Bertelli tells the story of this change. He does so through the clean faces of many people who are all together building the future of Calabria: young people, professionals, the elderly, men and women, all faces that face everyday life with confidence and hope, in the same way as those who live in other parts of Italy and the world.
The catalog has the curatorial texts of important intellectual personalities of the contemporary scenario, such as Francesco Mazza, Paola Grillo, Humbertus Von Amelunxen, Oliviero Toscani, Maurizio Rebuzzini, Luigi Maria Lombardi Satriani, Luigi La Rosa and Pino Bertelli himself.

The artistic value of this publication is inevitably associated with the cultural and social value. Leafing through the pages you can feel a vibrant willpower, which pushes to deepen the knowledge of the Calabrian territories as well as the protagonists of a fascinating and poetic story.
