Antonin Joseph Di Santantonio, architect and RUFA professor of Technology and materials for set design, has just published his latest book in collaboration with the architect Maria Beatrice Gallo: “Gaetano Castelli in the history of RAI scenography”. A project that reconstructs the career of the set designer from the beginning up to his latest RAI collaborations, the last of which was the preparation for the 70th Sanremo Festival in 2020.
The text, accompanied by images from the repertoire, sketches, design tables and in-depth analysis of scenography, traces the activity studded with successes; from the award as Best Designer of the year for the scenography of ’69 of “L’ora della verità”, up to the three coveted international awards of the Montreux Festival: the Silver Rose in ’78 for “Il Ribaltone”, the Rose of gold in ’83 for “Al Paradise”, and again the Silver Rose in ’99 for “Francamente me ne infischio” by Celentano. There are also unpublished testimonies from authors, conductors and showgirls, directors, orchestra and photography directors, graphic designers, costume designers, technicians, foremen and set designers and collaborators.
