Isabella Jahns wins the Rometti Prize 2022

The project of RUFA student Isabella Jahns ‘Crush me if you can’ wins the fifth edition of the Rometti Prize.

On Saturday 8 October, in the splendid setting of the Pastificio Cerere, the six artefacts of the young finalists, selected from over 70 participants, were exhibited.
The coffee table ‘Crush me if you can’ by the German Design student Isabella Jahns was the one that convinced the jury the most, winning first place for its innovative and original artistic and contemporary design imprint.

Second place for Letizia Lamincia, from the University of Perugia, with her ceramic lamp project ‘Sphere’. Bronze medal for Tomas Bongermino, from the IED in Milan, with his Bon Bom vase. Behind, if only by a whisker, the vases ‘Albedo and Nigredo’ by Anna Villa, from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, ‘Deduzione’ by Martino Chiesa (IED Milan) and ‘Rituale’, by Alaina Keys, a student at Washington University (USA).

Thus ended the tenth edition of the Rometti Prize with projects of extraordinary quality between tradition and innovation, between art, craftsmanship and design, in the presence of the owner of Ceramiche Rometti Massimo Monini, RUFA director Fabio Mongelli, various personalities from the world of art and culture and above all the finalist students, the real protagonists of the day.

The head of the Prize, David Menghini, recalled how the alliance between the historic Umbrian manufacturer and young people has always been central, from the times of Corrado Cagli and Leoncillo Leonardi to the present day, with the Prize often becoming a springboard for young designers who, after the internship experience, establish profitable and lasting collaborations with the manufacturer. For the 2022 edition, more than 70 projects were submitted, which obliged the jury to work hard to select first the six finalists who participated in the internship and then, among them, the top three.

During the event, the projects were displayed to the public and assessed by the jury, which awarded prizes to the most interesting works according to the criteria of form, decoration and functionality.
The aim of the Prize is to discover new talents and help them to express themselves, to find their own identity and voice in the world of creative expression. Rometti ceramics conceived this award precisely to offer itself as a tool in their hands and give new possibilities to the designers of the future.
Appointment therefore to the eleventh edition, whose call for entries comes out this week.

For all the students there is also the possibility, which has materialised several times in previous editions, that their project will be put into production by the manufacture, thus becoming an important springboard into the world of work.
