Electronic Transmutations

Lecturer Caterina Tomeo will participate in the fifth edition of the ‘Videocittà’ Festival as curator and presenter of the Talk cycle ‘Electronic Transmutations’.

Caterina Tomeo, coordinator of the Academic Course in Multimedia Arts and Design, will be among the protagonists of the Videocittà Festival of Vision – from 20 to 24 July in the unique spaces of the Gazometro – as curator and presenter of “Electronic Transmutations”, a cycle of Talks dedicated to the encroachments between different disciplinary fields that will host leading artists from the international scene. These encounters are the space for reflection that Videocittà dedicates to the in-depth examination of current and controversial issues in technology and audiovisuals in general, with the intention of raising public awareness of current topics of civic importance, in the hope of contributing, through constructive debate, to the change of the society in which we live.

After three years of silence, what best investigates the ineffable are contemporary artistic languages, as Aldous Huxley would say. Indeed, it is increasingly essential and necessary to invest in culture and in the interrelationships between the various disciplines, observing in particular the evolution of moving images and sound through advanced technological experimentation.

Major cultural events and festivals are the first places in which to rediscover the feeling of collectivity and sharing, which we have lost in recent years, but above all they are precious moments in which to explore electronic transmutations, which constitute a reality in fieri, i.e. they are the display of continuous change, passing from the use of one medium to another. The cycle of Talks – to be held from 21 to 23 July at Videocittà – therefore intends to investigate transitions by means of technology, as sources for raising our awareness of the world.
